A Surgeon's Hands,
A Feminine Touch

Dr. Kimberly Short, a native of Evansville, Indiana, attended Indiana University School of Medicine and continued her residency at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Upon completing her plastic surgery residency, Dr. Short believed that it was important to pursue further cosmetic surgery training in order to offer her patients the latest advances and the best techniques. Therefore, for the next year and a half, Dr. Short trained with both national and international experts in various fields of interest to her, which include breast, body, and facial rejuvenation. Her training has taken her all over the United States and France, where she received extensive experience in many cosmetic surgery procedures with multiple approaches to each different type of procedure. She was also exposed to many techniques which were on the cutting edge of technology.

Following her extensive training, Dr. Short and her family settled in Indianapolis where she opened her solo practice.

Being a perfectionist, she was drawn to plastic surgery as her surgical specialty. Because cosmetic surgery, a very specialized part of plastic surgery, changes rapidly, Dr. Short felt that obtaining additional training specifically in cosmetic surgery, would benefit her patients. She completed several fellowships with experts in the field of cosmetic surgery to learn the most advanced techniques.

These fellowships, dedicated to aesthetic surgery, allowed her to learn the safest and most modern techniques. The first fellowship included cosmetic surgery of the entire body with special emphasis on eyelid surgery and the second concentrated on facial cosmetic surgery.

She also trained with national experts in the fields of laser surgery, skin care, chemical peeling and endoscopic surgical techniques for the face and breast. Her international experience includes visiting surgeons in France, England, and Scotland and spending time at the Moorefield Eye Hospital in London, where she learned additional techniques in oculoplastic (eyelid) surgery.

As a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and Diplomat of the American Board of Plastic Surgery, Dr. Short is also a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, Midwest Association of Plastic Surgeons, Indiana State Medical Association, Indianapolis Medical Society, Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons.

She has presented her research at national and international meetings and has written articles on breast, eyelid, and nasal surgery. She also received special recognition for her work in breast surgery.

She not only speaks at national meetings but also attends regularly to stay current on the latest techniques in plastic surgery. Dr. Short is a member of the National Education Foundation of Botox® and her practice is recognized as a national training facility.

As a female who has herself had cosmetic surgery, Dr. Short is able to relay to her patients what to expect both before and after surgery. She feels it is important to create rapport and trust with all of her patients and therefore dedicates much of her time to educating her patients about the procedures they are considering. As a mother, she understands the many changes women experience throughout the life. Dr. Short's gentle, personable approach allows patients to feel very comfortable with her and their decision to pursue a cosmetic procedure. Dr. Short has four children, plays soccer, and enjoys reading and decorating, as well as outdoor activities.

Laser Hair Removal

Dr. Kimberly Short is pleased to announce that we are offering the Sciton Laser, a state-of-the-art system specially designed to remove hair safer, faster, and less painfully than ever before.

If you have hair that appears in places you don't like or expect - like the face, neck, abdomen, breasts, arms, back, legs or bikini area, it may be time to try our Sciton Laser. The specially designed chilled-tip laser allows direct laser energy to the hair root while protecting and cooling the surrounding skin.

The length of the laser treatments are usually brief; however, some laser treatments may last more than an hour, depending on the size of the area being treated. The laser will treat hair follicles that are in an active growth phase, so more than one treatment may be required to destroy hair follicles as they enter this growth phase. Most patients will require 3-7 treatments at 4-6 week intervals.

A few tips to keep in mind if you are considering laser hair reduction:
1) Do not tan the area to be treated 3 weeks prior to your treatment
2) Do not wax, tweeze or pluck, use a depilatory, or electrolysis 3 weeks prior to your treatment (any of the techniques listed will remove the hair from the follicle leaving you with less than optimal results)
3) We ask that you shave the area to be treated the morning of your treatment. When the area to be treated has been shaved the laser will spend its energy destroying the hair in the follicle versus destroying hair on the surface of the skin.

The laser treatment may cause a slight tingling sensation (compared to a sunburn); most patients tolerate this well.

The appearance of the treated area after a laser treatment will vary from patient to patient depending on the treatment and their skin type. You may have minimal redness which will disappear a short time after the procedure.

We believe that the Sciton Laser allows us to offer our patients the best technique available for the treatment of permanent hair reduction.
